GUEST SPEAKER:  JULIE BURKHARD

Julie Cain Burkhard is the Chief Legislative Officer (CLO) for the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC).   As the CLO, she develops and manages the legislative priorities, grassroots efforts, and Capitol Hill Visits for NIC, the trade association for sixty-eight men’s fraternities.  In addition to the CLO position, Julie works as the Director of Development for the Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee (FSPAC) and the Fraternity and Sorority Action Fund (FSAF). As the Director of Development Julie is responsible for raising contributions that are given to political candidates from the FSPAC and to fund advocacy initiatives supported by the FSAF.

With a B.A. and Master’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Georgia, Julie has worked in higher education for thirty-seven years having held positions at the University of Georgia, the University of Virginia, and the University of South Florida.  As a member of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity, she served the Fraternity as National President, Chairman of the Alpha Chi Omega National Housing Corporation, Trustee of the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation and Chairman of the National Panhellenic Conference.  Most recently, Julie was the Executive Director for the Phi Mu Foundation and the first female president of the Fraternity and Sorority Political Action Committee and Fraternity and Sorority Action Fund.
