What is an alumnae association or alumnae chapter?
When women are initiated into sororities, they become lifetime members. The
benefits of sorority affiliation continue well past college days, as alumnae
provide the same support and friendships that collegiate members enjoy.
Alumnae associations are chapters or recognized groups of alumnae that form
geographically, rather than at campuses. Alumnae associations of almost all
NPC groups exist in the Atlanta area. These alumnae groups make up the Atlanta
Alumnae Panhellenic Association. |
What do alumnae associations do?
Alumnae groups serve different functions, depending on the objectives of each
organization. Many alumnae chapters gather socially on a regular basis, support
local charities, work with local chapters, and participate in their respective
national organizations. Alumnae associations often function as an initial source
of contact for alumnae new to the area, and can help alumnae members establish
beneficial relationships. |

As participants in the AAPA, members of alumnae associations help
promote Greek life, support the AAPA scholarships, and educate high school women
and their parents about campus Greek activities.
The programs
offered by AAPA to Greek women in Atlanta encourage progress of each alumnae
association, and each alumna. Women from member groups, working together toward
common goals, unite their alumnae associations as a cohesive unit in support of
alumnae membership. |
How can I become involved in my sorority's alumnae association?
Contact the Panhellenic representative of your sorority for
more information. If your sorority is not represented on the AAPA, contact your
(inter)national headquarters.
