Recruitment Information

Supporting Potential New Members and Their Families

Welcome

Sorority life offers friendship, leadership, scholarship, and service in a community that supports women long after college. While sororities have varying creeds and mottos, they are united in striving to provide members with sisterhood, opportunities for personal development, and fun.

Recruitment is the process students use to explore sorority membership on their campus. Each College Panhellenic manages its own recruitment, and AAPA is here to help you understand the basics and connect you with the right resources.

For the most accurate, up‑to‑date information about sorority life and recruitment, visit the National Panhellenic Conference’s official site The Sorority Life.

What Is Sorority Recruitment?

Recruitment is a mutual selection process where students meet sorority members, learn about chapter values, and discover where they feel most at home. Most campuses host a series of “rounds” that help PNMs get to know multiple organizations before making their final selections.

Learn about Sorority Recruitment:

Recruitment Counselors (Rho Gammas/Rho Chis, Pi Chis)

During recruitment, each PNM is paired with a trained recruitment counselor. These women temporarily step away from their own sorority to provide unbiased support, answer questions, and guide PNMs through the process.

Recommendation Letters

Letters of recommendation are not required to participate in recruitment. Some chapters may use them as part of their membership selection process, but they are not necessary for a student to register or receive full consideration.

If a PNM wishes to pursue recommendations:

  • Start with personal connections (family friends, teachers, neighbors, alumnae you know).

  • AAPA can assist if needed once you've exhausted your personal contacts; materials must be provided.
